James had a great season this year with the Bedford Ward basketball team. At the beginning of the season, Bedford was combined with a Thayne ward because both wards had insufficient players. But then Bedford boys rallied and developed an amazing team with several players and some of them exceptional. Another really good element of the team was the way they all supported each other no matter their skill level. They would pass around and look for ways to include everyone. There were two coaches - Brandon Kallgren and Mike Suter. Brandon went back to BYU-I after the Christmas break so just Mike was left. He had a very calm and unifying style of coaching. Bedford won the Thayne Stake, which is the first time in many years. They played an Afton team for the valley championship, and lost. Mike was out of town and their sub coach has a different style. The boys were all very nervous and they hadn't played a game for over a month. Whereas the Afton teams had had continuous play until the final. Our first half was poor, but we did win the second half, but lost the overall game. If we had another 5 minutes we would have won. We were only down 5 points. The following video clips are not from that game.
James is in the white shorts.
He scores!
James feels he's better at basketball, even though football is still a favorite. We're glad he could have such a positive experience.
