Act of Kindness

I want to write about an act of kindness that will hopefully inspire you to act kindly toward someone today. Back the first week of May, the Erickson crew went to Nauvoo. We met up with my good friend Dan and all of his clan. It was quite the trip in one quick zip. We left on Tuesday and came back on Friday. Tuesday night we stayed with Eliza's cousins, the Johnsons, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was fun to catch up with them and see some extended family. On Wednesday we arrived in Nauvoo. The temple was gorgeous, and it was fun to go back in time as we viewed all the history that took place there. We wore ourselves out going on wagon rides and seeing various shops and buildings. Every evening in Nauvoo, they perform the Rendezvous. It is about an hour long singing and dancing production by the senior missionaries. Starting Memorial Day weekend, more performers come and they have the pageants.

Anyway, we wanted to attend Rendezvous, but it started at 7. It was about five thirty when we finished at the tinsmith's shop, but we were hungry and tired and the place we were staying was about 25 min away in Carthage. Luckily there was someone around to help us out. The senior sister missionary at the tinsmith's shop asked if we were going to Rendezvous. We replied that we were and before we could even tell her about our dilemma, she invited us to come stay at her house until it started. She and her husband were in the production. It was funny because her husband was in the gunsmith shop, which we had attended right before the tinsmith, and he said that we should go over to the tinsmith shop because his wife would love to see our children. We were grateful we listened to him. We followed them to their place and started cooking dinner we had brought with us. She was so sweet and kind but shortly after we had arrived she said that she needed to take a nap before Rendezvous. We understood and we were actually able to lay Emmaline down for a nap too, which was a huge blessing. She even had toys for Hyrum to play with. As we were sitting down to the spaghetti we made, there was a knock at the door. We answered it since both of the senior missionaries were resting and preparing for the evening. A middle-aged woman appeared looking for some senior missionaries she met earlier. We told her that she was at the right right place and offered her some spaghetti. We were all amazed and inspired at the kindness of these people who were truly living up to the calling of representing the Savior. After dinner we attended Rendezvous. It was really fun. Hyrum kept asking for more singing every time they finished a song.

The next day we switched babysitting with Dan and Lexi, so we were both able to attend the temple. We continued to explore, learn, and have adventures, but nothing quite compared to the kindness of those missionaries we met on the first day.

Hyrum loved the statues.

It is hard to ride on a wagon for an hour.

This is us at Carthage. We stayed at an AirBnB in the town of Carthage.
